The Prey, 1984. A very weak attempt at a backwoods slasher. The biggest challenge for the director was filling the 80 min. runtime. There is a crazy amount of wildlife footage that gets almost more screentime than the characters. Most scenes are padded, there’s improvised small talk between the characters because they lack a decent script, no atmosphere nor suspense. The tagline reads: “It’s not human, and it’s got an axe!” Just type in the title plus release date and prepare yourself for the poor and cheap look of the creature, he’s barely on screen. I couldn’t figure out the movie poster ‘till recently but it’s an axe splitting a night gown in two (I thought it was some weird alien face). Lame, to be avoided.
